How to Use Hex Code Finder

  1. Choose, drop, or paste an image. You can also load the sample image.
  2. Hover or touch the image. Zoom or change the sampling area when needed.
  3. Select a color, copy a value, or choose a color from the history or palette.

  • Private by design. All processing runs locally in your browser - no account, no installation, no uploads.
  • Pixel sampling. Inspect pixels with a loupe, pixel grid, rulers, and coordinates. Sample one pixel with 1x1, or average a 3x3, 5x5, or 7x7 area to smooth out anti-aliasing and compression noise. Area samples account for alpha.
  • Image navigation. Zoom from 25% to 3200% with controls or the mouse wheel. Pan with the mouse, reduce the working resolution to speed up very large images, or use arrow keys for pixel movement. Select with Enter or Space.
  • Mobile controls. Drag one finger to inspect and lift to select. Drag two fingers to pan or pinch to zoom. A brief confirmation shows the picked color.
  • Color formats. Copy HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLAB, OKLCH, CMYK, LCH, or RGB 0-1. Formats with alpha support preserve transparency.
  • History and palettes. Reuse recent selections or extract a palette and set its color count.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. Your browser decodes and processes the selected file locally. The app does not send it to a server.

Which image file types can I open?

Common formats like PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP, and SVG open in every modern browser. Anything else your browser can decode also works, such as HEIC in Safari.

Should I sample one pixel or average an area?

Use 1x1 for one decoded pixel. Use 3x3, 5x5, or 7x7 to average nearby pixels. Averaging reduces variation from anti-aliasing, compression, and texture.

Can Hex Code Finder detect transparent colors?

Yes. The selected HEX value includes alpha when present. Other formats include alpha when they support it. Area samples account for transparent pixels.

How is the color palette generated?

The app analyzes a reduced copy of the image, skips fully transparent pixels, groups similar colors, and sorts them by pixel count. Change the palette count to regenerate it.

Can I use Hex Code Finder on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Touch controls cover everything: one finger inspects and selects, two fingers pan and zoom.
